Overview

The Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) master’s degree is a multi-professional program open to all experienced registered healthcare professionals who wish to advance their careers at the Master’s level and be at the forefront of their field of practice. The course is designed to facilitate the development of knowledge and skills related to advanced clinical practice in the care of adults, children, and their families.

We also offer this course as an apprenticeship route, please speak to the team for more information and how to apply.

The MSc Advanced Clinical Practice (Progression route) is for students who have successfully completed the PgD in Advanced Healthcare Practice or Enhanced Clinical Practice (ACP exit award) and wish to continue their academic study. It is a one-year, part-time program. Please contact the Course Leader to discuss optional modules or module assessment information.

The module explores the four pillars of advanced practice—clinical practice, leadership and  management, education, and research—as defined by national frameworks and professional  bodies. It encourages students to critically examine how these pillars interact to support safe, effective, and person-centered care.

This module is designed to equip advanced practitioners with the knowledge, skills, and critical thinking required to perform comprehensive, person-centred assessments and make informed clinical decisions in complex healthcare environments. Holistic assessment is a cornerstone of advanced practice, enabling practitioners to 
consider the full spectrum of physical, psychological, social, and spiritual factors that influence health and wellbeing.

NMP training can support role and career development by enabling practitioners to take on greater responsibilities for managing patient care. NMP enhances patient care by supporting patients’ timely access to treatment with medicines, enabling choice whilst helping to reduce waiting times, reduce hospital admissions, and maximize the wider skills of the healthcare team.

This module focuses on the knowledge and skills needed to effect meaningful change in healthcare services, focusing on the underpinning theory of change approaches, the global and national policy landscape that informs strategy driving change and the practical techniques needed to advance innovation through change and service improvement.

This module provides you with the opportunity to undertake a substantial, independent piece of work that demonstrates your ability to critically engage with a topic relevant to advanced clinical practice. The dissertation represents the culmination of the programme, allowing you to integrate and apply the knowledge, skills, and professional insights gained throughout your studies. Advanced clinical practitioners are expected to contribute to the development of evidence-based practice, service improvement, and innovation within your field. This module supports you in identifying a clinically relevant issue, formulating a research question or service evaluation aim, and conducting a rigorous investigation using appropriate methodologies.

This module provides you with the opportunity to consolidate and demonstrate your development as advanced clinical practitioners through the creation of a comprehensive portfolio of evidence. The portfolio serves as a structured and reflective record of learning, achievement, and professional growth across the four pillars of advanced practice:鈥痗linical practice, leadership and management, education, and research.
